Hi there! Hope y’all had a nice Thanksgiving holiday! We sure did. It all seems to go by too quickly, though. I really enjoy this time of year, really, fall through winter. I enjoy the preparation, the smells of baking, family traditions, and the coziness of it all. It’s been on my mind to make an advent calendar leading up to Christmas to help give a little extra focus on the arrival of Jesus (as Advent is defined as arrival). I love to think about His coming and His death and why He came and died for me. It gives a whole new meaning to Christmas! We all know that the gifts are exciting, but will soon become less important. “But the word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Peter 1:25), and this is truly what will make a life changing difference in our lives and our kids. So, get your kids involved in this, too! 🙂
You will need: ribbon, brass fasteners, chalk, pen, scissors, paper bags, construction paper, tape, and maybe a hot glue gun, a board or your choice of background.
I remembered that I had this sanded cupboard door that I’m not using at the moment. You can even do this on your refrigerator, though! Use your imagination. 😉
You’ll need to cut your ribbon long enough to fit across the board with a little slack. I attached the ribbon with a dab of hot glue on the backside after I attached all the bag pieces to the ribbon. Cut squares or rectangles out of your paper bags and construction paper. Number your construction paper pieces 1-24 with the chalk, if desired. Tape numbered construction paper onto paper bag squares. The verses are written on the back of each of the paper bag pieces. Here is a link to which verses you can place on the back. A fellow blogger of mine has them all written out. Phew!
After writing the first few verses on the back, I realized it would be better to turn the paper bag square upside down, so when you flip it, you can see the verse right side up, if that makes sense. Attach each bag piece to the ribbon with a brass fastener. There are so many ways you can make one of these with various materials. I just looked around the house and used what I had. The goal is to not go out and buy more stuff! 😉 Don’t you agree? (Especially at this time of the year!)
I love how it turned out and look forward to starting it tomorrow! Maybe this will inspire you to try out something new and get refocused during the holidays. Blessings!
